Welcome
Mackerel Sky Seafood Bar
Mackerel Sky Seafood Bar was opened in May 2015 by Nina and Jamie MacLean. They previously owned the Mackerel Sky restaurant in Penzance but sold that in 2016 to start a family. The seafood bar started as a seasonal restaurant but is now open most of the year! See below for current opening hours.
Welcome to the Mackerel Sky Seafood Bar, set in the heart of the fishing village of Newlyn, Cornwall. The restaurant was opened in May 2015 by Nina and Jamie MacLean.
We aim to bring you the freshest and most local produce. All our plates are ‘taster’ size so order one or two plus a side to make up a meal or just go ‘tapas’ style! Please notify us of any allergies.
We are closed mid dec- mid feb, otherwise open daily.
The restaurant does not take bookings, We operate a queue system when busy. Please note it is a very small restaurant with a mixture of outdoor & indoor seating. Very limited capacity in poor weather.
Absolutely! We welcome well behaved dogs inside and outside.

3 months agoMackerel Sky Seafood Bar is well worth a visit. We arrived at 2.30pm to take a look and were greeted on the kerb by the waitress who showed us to the table outside on the pavement and put a heater on ( we preferred pavement as we have an unpredictable puppy ) The portion sizes are small as it's a taster menu so select several. We had crispy Squid, grilled Monkfish and grilled Mackerel, all were cooked to perfection, the best lunch we have had in years. The service is definitely 5 star as well as the food. Yes, it's pricey as others have said however you can't get fresher fish than being next to the harbour, straight from the boat to the kitchen. You can't book a table just turn up, we went on a week day afternoon in October. Honestly well worth trying.

4 months agoFantastic food, local fish and seafood doesn't get any better! Really friendly staff and service. Queues outside as the place is so popular but they were still able to seat us very quickly and our food was brought out to us really quickly and was lovely fresh and hot. The deep fried squid was super tasty, monkfish burger, crab salad and local hake with capers and samphire. Highly recommend everything including the elderflower cider!

5 months agoExcellent value for money with a great variety of fresh seafood on offer. Visited on a Bank Holiday Monday, there was a small queue outside, but the wait wasn’t too long. The food was delicious and served in reasonable portions. The John Dory was outstanding, with an unbeatable garlic butter. Will definitely be returning.

4 months agoA lovely chill seafood restaurant with amazingly friendly staffs. The atmosphere is good, though a bit crowded. Scallops tastes amazing with dedicated texture and harmonious sauce. The only drawback is the lobster, which was a bit over-cooked and the texture goes firmer that I expected

6 months agoFantastic little place - you cant book a table and it operates via a queue system outside (this works best if you're in a couple as likely to get seated sooner than in a large group) however we didnt wait long at all. Food was delicious and fresh (the hake was like butter and melted in your mouth) staff are friendly and service was very efficient. It was full when we got there and I can understand why its so popular. All the food was cooked perfectly. There is also a carpark nearby (basically across the road), which we discovered was free from Mon-Sun after 4pm til 9pm - perfect for an evening meal. Highly recommend.
