a month agoPureGym Moorgate: Deep Dive Fitness! 🏙️🏋️♂️ Alright fam, ventured into PureGym Moorgate, right in the heart of the City of London. Perfect spot if you're an office warrior – barely even need to shed your trusty Patagonia gilet before hitting the weights. 💼💪 First impression? This place is basically an underground labyrinth. Felt like I needed a map and compass just to find the dumbbell rack. 🗺️ You descend deeper... and deeper... until you reach the lowest level. Pretty sure I saw Cerberus guarding the leg press, ready to judge my fitness sins. 🔥 Good news: Cardio bunnies and class fanatics get their own separate kingdoms (rooms), so you don't have to dodge rogue Zumba moves while searching for gains. They've got 4 squat racks, which is decent! Almost had a meltdown thinking there was no reverse leg curl, but plot twist! It was playing hide-and-seek behind a corner. Sneaky. 👀 Bad news: The quest for the mythical Belt Squat Machine continues... CONFIRMED: NO BELT SQUAT AT MOORGATE. Another one bites the dust. My glutes weep silently. The free weights and machines are kinda smooshed together, giving it that cozy, "please don't drop that 25kg plate on my foot" vibe. Speaking of those plates, they feel extra spicy after the epic trek to the water fountain, which is located somewhere near Narnia (okay, by the treadmills, but still a hike!). 💧🥵 The stretching/kettlebell area? Let's just say it's... intimate. Squeezed into a hallway like an afterthought. Locker rooms are fine, though! No suspicious smells, which is always a win in a budget gym. ✅ Verdict: Solid for a PureGym, especially given the prime location. Just bring snacks for the journey between zones and maybe hold a séance to manifest a belt squat machine next time. Still worth the trip if you're in the Square Mile!

3 months agoDO NOT JOIN PUREGYM..... They claim one price and then charge another and have the worst customer service when you try to raise it I realised this immediately when my monthly direct debit was £11 more than they stated and was suddenly £54 a month rather than the £44 stated (see screenshot) by contacting customer services and asking them to cancel the contract and refund the money due to this mistake. Their response was a rude response stating that I misunderstood despite their clear attempt to missell the offer. They also said they're not going to do anything about it and still charge me - so basically saying tough shit I've raised this with the ombudsman but my advice is to not fall in this trap and avoid them altogether.. Just go to anytime or the gym group instead who have better equipment and are cheaper respectively UPDATE: A few hours after posting this I got an email at 1am letting me know that there's no need to raise this with the fca since I was less than two weeks into the contract I could cancel and get a refund as per the Ts and Cs. And then when I asked them to do that they then claimed its a "goodwill gesture" like it's a favour to do what they didn't offer in the first place and are legally obliged to do Horrendous customer service and sales practices.... Avoid at all costs

7 years agoOn Saturdays and Sundays, the gym is fairly quiet at its right in the heart of the city. On week days, it's so busy. Right after work finishes, the gym is packed out. There's queues for machines, weights space. There's plenty of weights and machines to use. The free weights are pretty much always in the right place. Then gym is clean as the the changing rooms, showers and toilets. There's drinks machines selling water and protein shakes just after the entrance. As well as free towels. When going via the lifts, there's no sign saying where the gym is. It's LG2!

10 months agoThe gym has all the essentials but I joined this gym at least 5 months ago and there has never been consistently good air con. In the last month, the gym has had portable air cons and the gym is unbearably hot. I really hope they sort out the air conditioning soon as it takes away from the experience and nice atmosphere.

6 months agoQuite a bad experience. The showers are usually dirty. The shower head is not adjustable, the water comes out in all the directions and there's no space inside the shower where the water doesn't touch you. That's a problem cause the water temperature is not adjustable and it always starts out cold and even after it starts warming up it's lukewarm. Sometimes there's no shower gel and you can't see without trying it out
