We’re the city’s independent local bistro. We’re passionate about quality British and European food, cooked to order with traditional recipes – and best enjoyed with an exceptional wine.
We had a delightful lunch experience here. We were on a hunt for a great Beef Wellington and photos from this place got us on the hook.
The Wellington itself was the highlight of our visit - it exceeded our expectations!
We had a few starters and a swordfish as another main - they were good but probably not perfect, at least not on the same level as the Beef. The desserts were excellent!
I also want to highlight the impeccable service we received here - it was probably the most friendly and welcoming service we had in quite a while!
I would recommend this place and would come again but I wish they add a bit more finesse to other dishes as well for this place to step up and offer even better experience!
Our friends raved about the perfectly cooked beef Wellington here, and when we recently visited for a farewell dinner, we completely agreed with them. The other dishes were also delicious. The restaurant was clean, and the staff were friendly and welcoming. We really enjoyed our meal and would happily return for another special occasion.
This place is honestly epic. The place itself is cosy and super welcoming. The service is so good and everyone is so attentive but the start of the show has got to be the beef wellington. It's by far the best I've ever had and I've tried many many of them. The crumble for desert was also ridiculously good. I cannot recommend this place enough and I'd come to cambridge all the way from London just to have it.
Solid 4.6
Modicum rare scallops. Fresh and juicy (no fishiness). A little salty but go well with the pee puree, which is mellow and sweet. As a mushy pea lover, it’s a big factor in my decision to take scallop instead of prawn.
Gnocchi surprisingly comes without sauce (or cheese), less fat I hope. Truffle is on the subtle side. Tomato is tangy and appetizing, interesting combination. Mushrooms are juicy but not slimy.
Decided to try the poached pear even if it means I’ll need a takeaway and will still have sugar rush when I try to finish my dissertation. Coconut icecream is really refreshing, light, not too sweet. The pear is delightfully confusing— pear shape, orange color, peach texture, saffron aroma.
I should have come earlier in the past four years. But until now it has been quite difficult to book :) Glad I came. Hope my parents can enjoy the food and lovely wine list here someday.
Friendly and welcoming people actually. Looking forward to try the other starters and mains.
We were invited to The Oak Bistro for a recent business dinner, and the experience was flawless. The setup was perfect for our group of nine; we were seated at a great table that was quiet enough for effective conversation.
Service was excellent and fast. Our waiter was highly attentive and, impressively, even remembered our names.
We had all individually pre-ordered our dishes from the three-course menu. Despite the complex and diverse orders for a table of nine, the service was incredibly fast. While all dishes were delicious, the Beef Wellington was the absolute highlight. It was served as an individual portion, cooked exactly to perfection—truly a dream dish. They also offer an excellent, well-curated wine list.
Next time I'm in Cambridge, I will certainly choose The Oak Bistro again. Highly recommended!
