Welcome to Winster Shop – a shop run by and for the community! We’ve been around since January 2005 when we took over the old GB Stores, and we’ve been proudly serving the village ever since, with over 20 years of history behind us!
Our goal is simple: to provide a friendly, sustainable village shop that’s owned and managed by the local community, with all profits benefiting everyone. We’re a small team, with 2 full-time staff, 4 part-time staff, and a fantastic group of over 40 local volunteers who help keep everything running smoothly. The shop’s financial and legal affairs are overseen by our dedicated Board of Directors, who are all volunteers too.
Even though we’re a small shop, we’re proud to say we’re in the top 8% of village shops across the UK, thanks to our focus on offering the best local produce. From fresh dairy, fruit, and vegetables to meats, bread, drinks, and other essentials – we’ve got everything you need, and we’re passionate about supporting local suppliers.
Winster Shop is a key part of our village community, serving not just locals, but also the many visitors, walkers, and cyclists who pass through. During the tough times of the COVID lockdowns, we were there for the community, and we were honoured to receive the King’s Award for Voluntary Service (KAVS) in 2023 for our efforts.
We’re open every single day of the year – yes, 365 days!

a month agoWonderful local shop, not just for local people. Community owned and run by the good people of Winster, local products, produce, books and local guides to the village and surrounding area as well as a post office. The shop is also a fantastic source of information and tickets for local events.

a year agoFabulous community owned village shop with lots of local products and helpful staff. Everything we needed for our 5 night stay. They even had the button battery we needed for our key fob when our hire car wouldn’t start!

7 years agoConvenient little shop located in the village of Winster. It is locally owned and maintained by local volunteers. Very informative and friendly individuals who helped me figure out the bus system as well as the local footpaths. Has all the main bits you might need while visiting/vacationing/living a Winster. Be on the lookout for local items like jam, meat and baked goods (delicious!) Friendly and warm environment and they’ve even got a little post office inside the shop!

11 months agoGreat little shop, we always enjoy popping in during our visits to Winster. Great varied selection. There aren’t many places like this around still. What an asset to the community! A big thanks to the volunteers who keep it going.

6 years agoLovely shop! and, has best butter I have ever had! I always pop in when visiting family in the area. Run by friendly and very helpful folks. It has everything you need from a local shop and lots more; all the essentials plus great range of credible local produce. The option to get cash-back is a lifesaver
